The creator of the Assassin’s Creed games, Ubisoft, has partnered with the crypto infrastructure company Immutable to develop a blockchain-based gaming experience.
New Partnership In Blockchain Gaming
Earlier today, Immutable, the leading web3 gaming platform, announced a new partnership with Ubisoft. According to the statement, Ubisoft and Immutable are building “a new gaming experience that will further unlock the potential of Web3.”
Although the announcement does not reveal any further detail about the nature of the project, speculations are rife that it will be a new blockchain game created by integrating Immutable tech into a Ubisoft game already in development.
Another plausible situation is that the project comprises a gaming experience like a “collect to earn” system, where players will get the opportunity to earn NFTs through gameplay.
Ubisoft’s Web3 Projects
Ubisoft, however, is best known as the developer behind the Assassin’s Creed saga. The company’s blockchain initiatives are headed by the VP of Ubisoft Strategic Innovation Lab, Nicolas Pouard.
Addressing the partnership, Pouard stated,
“As the platform of choice for many leaders within the Web3 community, Immutable offers both cutting-edge technology and a unique expertise in seamlessly integrating decentralized technologies into games. We’re excited to partner with them and look forward to bringing that level of fluidness within a full-fledged game, so players only have to focus on the fun of the experience.”
The game developer has dabbled in Web3 through multiple NFT-related projects like its quirky Rabbids game, which was launched in The Sandbox and on Reddit.
The developer also dropped free Tezos NFTs for Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Breakpoint back in 2021. However, the Ghost Recon project has been scrapped since April 2022, as the team has stated that the technology will be adapted for future games.
Immutable To The Rescue
Immutable was the driving force behind the layer-2 blockchain Immutable X, which supports games like Gods Unchained and Guild of Guardians for NFT integrations. Furthermore, game studios and independent developers both flock to the Immutable platform as it empowers them with prebuilt solutions to create web3 games for the Ethereum blockchain.
James Ferguson, Immutable CEO and Co-Founder, said,
“Partnering with Ubisoft is a defining landmark for Immutable. We couldn’t be more excited to explore with Ubisoft the benefits of web3 and digital ownership for players. We plan to bring the full weight of our ecosystem to bear to ensure the partnership’s success. We are confident that we will bring to life a fresh new experience that players will love.”
